Dear Daryl,
I just added some publicity for that outstanding album "Another side of Genesis" on the GENESISLIVE.NING comunity. As I listen daily to your "Firth of the Fifth" guitar solo (I just can't get that of my cd-player), I had to tell about your work on my page at genesislive.ning. I permitted myself to download "Follow you, Follow me" and I had some great comments on that. I added a direct link to your site to invite members to discover all your work. Still hoping to see you in concert solo one day, and million thanks for your art. Think I go and have a listen to the "Firth of the Fifth" solo on the "When in Rome" DVD. See ya,
Michel

Hi Daryl, I was just listening to George Duke's "That's What She Said" and thought, Wow, I need to Google Daryl Stuermer and see what's he's up to. I saw you with Ponty and a small club in '76 in Tempe, AZ. What a memorable night! Of all the rock/fusion cats, I have always thought you were among the best. Great phrasings, you knew what to say, how to say it and never belabored the point. Perhaps the most melodic guitarist of your generation. I wish you continued success and good luck. If you ever make it to the West Coast or SE Asia (Bangkok / Singapore) I'd sure like to know about it. Regards, Rob

Jim Wright - Sunday, August 17th, 2008 9:37 AM CDT
Daryl, I missed your show at Niagara on the lake and was wondering if you will be in the upstate N.Y. area in the near future? After seeing Genesis 6 times last year, your solo has inspired me to become a better Guitar player . I think you are an incredible artist and your talent is so diversified there is always something new to discover. Thank you for waking me up with your gift. Jim.

Marc Rodriguez - Monday, August 11th, 2008 8:08 AM CDT
Daryl:

As a guitarist/musician, I have followed you career since being with Ponty and have alway's admired your guitar playing. It was great seeing you perform with your band at the Wisconsin State Fair Sunday. You amazed me on how much a guitar virtuoso you are whipping off leads that I grew up listening to with your former bands. Your solo work is excellent. Keep up the great work and Rock-On!!

Lil and I really enjoyed the Cedarburg show. Even though Kostia wasn't there you made us feel as though he was in spirit. Eric stepped up nicely to fill in the gaps and Del played excellent. I enjoyed my conversation with Michaela and later our conversation together. Hope you plan some winter shows this year. Your friend, Gene

Just bought When In Rome (Genesis) and watched it straight away. After many postponings it was finally there. This registration is superb! As I noticed in Amsterdam, when you guys played there, and now on the DVD, it's obvious your guitar and bass playing add a big lot to the show. You're the best! Your guitar solo on Firth of Fifth is a true highlight of the event.
Someone mentioned a possibility of songs from Calling All Stations to be played live. I think maybe it's for the best to forget that music, 'cause it's definately their worst attempt to stay alive musically.

John Matthews - Monday, May 19th, 2008 8:33 AM CDT
Currently listening to the show on WKLH where the auction for the screening of When in Rome on behalf of Childrens Hospital Wisconsin is happening. What a great idea! You and Michaela are to congratulated for this amazing thought. P.S. Listening online from the UK.
Keep up the great work and producing great music.

Dear Daryl, i will this very brief, i am 42, i had a very abusive childhood and one i would not wish for my son.As i was have the worst time of my life a friend gave me a couple of genesis albums, and they saved my sanityand life.I would lock myself away and listen and listen and listen,i have been a huge fan ever since, you are all just class, and i thank you and the band.I saw you play at Twickenham and two days later in Munich,i had my 11 year old son with me who i love and adore, when you came on stage ibegan to cry, it brought back memories of my childhood but most of all i never thought i would see the day that my son would see the best band in the world.Could you thank the band or reply to this and it would make me very happy, kind regards and stay happy.

Hey hey my my rock and roll will never die.
Your Elvis plug being a inspiration was a good business move much better than your Milwaukee radio interview; where predictably you got frowned upon and slighted with a clever contemptible aspiration.

I think your comments were very correct when you said that the 1992 WE Can't Dance Tour was not a proper "goodbye" tour for the fans.
So for the past 15 years we have waited for that void to be filled-what was unsaid-said. Your recent tour was a proper, dignified and profound farewell. If it is the last "we will see the likes of you" tour then I want to personally thank you and the band for a fantasic send off and thanks also for the many years and time and efforts you shared with millions of people that you do not even know. Your efforts are appreciated and once again thank you for a great show and tour.

Cindy Lessila - Thursday, October 11th, 2007 2:31 PM CDT
Hi Daryl--
Saw the show in Chicago on the 4th--you guys were fantastic! I've contacted you before to say thanks because almost exactly 21 years before (10/6/86) my husband and I went on our first date to see Genesis at the Rosemont Horizon! Now we've been married 17 years and have 3 kids (I guess our kids have Genesis to thank for their existence!). Fabulous show, thanks for all the hard work--the hilight for me was "Follow You, Follow Me," because it was our wedding song! Good luck with the rest of the tour and everything else you do. We're your biggest fans right here in Wauwatosa! Take care.
Cindy

Gabe Ferrara - Saturday, October 6th, 2007 11:07 AM CDT
Daryl,saw/heard the show in Chicago, Oct.4,07. Great! One of the best I've ever been to. You were fantastic and I could tell really enjoying yourself. The way you carry that band is amazing while getting so little credit. That is why I am taking the time to tell you how cool it was to see you with them again and you were by far the best person on stage. I am looking forward to talking with you again around the Milwaukee area. I'm the guy who told you that I should get kickback from Phil for turning so many people on to Genesis over the years before they were popular @ here. Your answer to me was; what about me? This took place a few years ago in Racine on Lake Michigan after a gig with your band. Hope you are enjoying touring as much as I enjoyed listening. Tear em up on the west coast! Gabe

Tym - Friday, October 5th, 2007 1:23 AM CDT
Daryl & Michaela,

Just got back from the last night in Chicago, and I wanted to immediately say thank you for a great show! The sound quality was the best I've ever heard at any concert. And the precision of the songs was fantastic! You could tell you were all in sync with each other. I had my doubts about the songs being lowered for Phil to sing - that the 'punch' might be taken out a bit. But being there and feeling the atmosphere and energy of the songs totally made up for the key changes. The most memorable song of the night, for me, was "Follow You Follow Me", since I don't think I can recall any tour where Phil sang and played the song at the same time. Of course, "Los Endos" was awesome, and seeing your fingers fly on the big screen during "Firth of Fifth" was incredible. Finally, during "Carpet Crawlers" until the end of the show was done, I was weeping, knowing this may be the last time I see my "hero's".

Once again, thank you (and of course, the entire band) for a very memorable evening - one I'll never forget!!

Your old computer guru - Tim

Charmaine - Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007 12:53 PM CDT

The balance of the different eras was brilliant, interaction with the crowd was great, and of course your playing was superb as always (what a haunting solo on Ripples). Dear Daryl- I have to say thank you very much for your Gear Talk at "Gitarre & Bass"... Thats why I come back from use my VOX AC-30CC2X, witch is an amazing amp, with two Channels to one Channel-using (Clean) and with the TONEBONE Plexi. It sounds really amazing and You have given me the Input to do that...! So I have no more Problems with my BOSS DD-20 Delay,(because the Send/Return of the VOX was killing the Sound definitly...) it sounds great after the Tonebone and I have an easy going Stage-Equipment for the future and I´m very happy about it! I will buy your new album "Go" quickly now and wigh you all the best on your future-way...! Cordial Mandy

Hi Daryl,

I've been a Genesis-fan since 1980, and my first show was Leiden 1981, the Abacab-tour. I never forget the opener Behind the lines, with all the Varilites, great sound and your powerfull guitar playing. I was impressed! Since then I saw Genesis in 1987, toured along with the band in 1992 and also saw them in 1998. And this year? Well, I was in Duesseldorf Germany and Amsterdam. And, Daryl, I must say, the band sounded better than ever! The sound was like the old days, in 1981. And that same powerfull opener! Just fantastic! Besides, your guitar performance was impressive, esp. during I know what I like (instrumental part), Ripples and Los Endos. The latter was the most powerfull version I ever heard.
Daryl, I wish you and the whole band and crew all the best for the second leg of the tour. And congratulations with your newest album Go. I have it right here, in my CD-player, and it sounds very good.

Besh wishes,
Gerrit, The Netherlands

Dear Daryl

I've been a Genesis fan since my 13 when I heard Mama for the first time.
I've been in Bercy in june 87 for my concert. Never missed an occasion since...Vincennes 92, Bercy 98...
Then I was so happy like so many other fans around the world, hearing the news about the turn it on again tour...could'nt be less expected...

I've decided this time to see more than one show, and I've seen Brussels, Paris and Lyon. I've been totally surprised and pleased by the set, the scene, the band, playing so well after all these years...and of course Daryl's guitar interventions were fantastic as usual...(Firth of fifth for instance, the highlight....).
I remember meeting Daryl in Paris in 99, I think, during the Phil Collins big Band show in The Rex, after the show, I've come to see Phil, but he was soon gone...so I've seen Daryl, and managed to say frightened a poor "you're fantastic", after making sign a piece of paper...

Hope to see Daryl again live...and new album might not be inimaginable..as I read somewhere...

Hi Daryl, I was at the Manchester show, what a truly memorable night...Firth of Fifth made the hairs on my neck stand up, and a tear to my eye. Thank you, Hope you mange to come to the UK on your post Genesis Tour.

Dave Yardley - Friday, August 17th, 2007 1:10 AM CDT
Daryl, I was lucky enough to be given a 'pass-out' from my wife to fly from New Zealand to the UK for the TIOA tour and I was at the Manchester and London gigs. Thank you so much for your part in 2 incredible and memorable gigs for me. I remember what you said inthe Genesis Songbook DVD about 92' being the last tour of Chester, yourself, Tony, Mike and Phil and I was one of those who didn't get to see that Genesis tour, living in hope for the past decade that Genesis may do something again. I enjoyed yours and Chester's performances - I thought you carved up the In the Cage solo especially - it was a joy to watch. Daryl, I travelled a long way to see Genesis and one of the songs that was a true highlight for me was Ripples - it was a very emotional song and the performance at Twickenham touched me deeply. During the song I thought of my wife and our 3 young children back in New Zealand and I got pretty emotional during the song as I thought about them half the world away, and how we had all waited so long for this tour, how special it was and how appreciative we are about what you guys did for us. If you have any ability to influence what tony mike and Phil decide, I would ask if you could please ask them to not remove Ripples from the set for the North American tour. The song is a very emotional special trip back for all Genesis fans and I would hate to see the NA fans miss out on such a special song in the Genesis catelogue. Thanks again Daryl for all of your updates from the tour and all that you contributed to two very special nights in my life.
All the best for a safe and successful North American tour Daryl! Dave - New Zealand.

Hans Hasselmann - Wednesday, June 27th, 2007 3:23 AM CDT
Hello Daryl. I saw the band in Herning, Denmark, on 14 June, and I brought my son, so we in the audience also experience Genesis as music and event to enjoy with a family dimension, as do the band members. The stage looked good even though the sun was up almost until the end of the show, and the sound was very good. We especially liked the long intricate classic Genesis songs; after nearly three hours of great music you would've had enough repertoire to continue for another three hours without playing the same tune twice: how many bands have a repertoire like that?! Thanks, and all the best wishes for the rest of the tour.

Jean-Lou - Tuesday, June 26th, 2007 9:10 AM CDT
Nice to see you and HEAR you on tour with Genesis again. It was a great day in Brussels 24. Hope the band got the photo I gave to the chauffeur! See you again in Paris on June 30 !!

Hi Daryl,
the show in Hamburg was fantastic. I Think you are right, the band played better than ever. The show could last 24 hours, though. almost 3 hours went by as if it were minutes and i was very emotional when you played carpet crawlers and the show ended.
Thank you & the band for giving us such a wonderful moment!!!

Do you believe that evry players with their own way & ways, get and go also beyond their dreams? You knoow, all roads get to Rome?

... or does memory determine the success of a guitarist?

I remember a long time Milwaukee guitarist named George Pritchet, he would do all but the first and last four bars his thing, which was good.

Do guitarist really play twice the same?

Hi Daryl.

I´ve follow your career since your participation with Jean Luc Ponty. I´m a guitar player focused on jazz music but with the inevitable influence of rock music. Also love your performances with Genesis wich is my favorite band of all times. I wish you could come to Spain this summer with "Turn It On Again" Tour. It would be the greatest reward to all of the fans you have in this country.

Best regards

Hi Daryl...caught the band at the Elkhart Lake show! HOLY TONEFEST!!! your Godin, quite possibly in my humble opinion, has the most incredible tone to date ~ both clean and driven! Call me nostalgic or "dated" but I'm also still hung up on your sound circa JLP's "Aurora" days, especially your acoustic solo on "Renaissance". Not for nothing, even Al Di's rendition of it w/ JLP and Stanley C's Rite of Strings doesn't quite do it for me. ;o) Do you still recall what your set up was on the Aurora album? Guitars, effects, amp(s)...I know that's a looooooong time ago & all but I've been curious about ever since! Best of everything and more power to one of my all time favorite guitar artiste!!!! Everything you guys played at Elkhart Lake just KILLED!!! I'm surprised the stage didn't burst up in flames!

Hi Daryl,

much fun for the 2007 genesis world tour. I hope the magic is still the same and it`s possible to keep progressive rock music alive. Genesis were ever a band with big song structures over ten minutes sometimes and I think that`s the thing the fans love about the band. It`s complex music with influences from pop, jazz and classic as well. It`s like the middle between several musical styles.

Have Fun,
Caspar Julian

Hello Daryl,
For the past 14 years your guitar solo on Firth of Fifth has been one of the most incredible things I've heard from a Stratocaster. I've watched the video hundreds of times. That video was released around the time I started playing guitar, and that level of ability has always been something I've aspired to. I want to thank you for that great performance.

Clyde Ramsdell - Saturday, February 17th, 2007 10:48 AM CST
Can't wait to see you and the boys when you hit the states. Hoping for at least Boston and New York shows. Genesis has always played on my stereo and will always. The music has good value and some of the tunes are real powerful. Glad to see that you are in the tour. I especially like your take on all of Steve Hackett's licks. I sometimes think you have better chops but that is just my opinion. Keep on keeping on Daryl.

Thank you Daryl for playing "Determined" at Shank Hall on December 29th 2006. This song is awesome "live" because it is high spirited and energetic just like yourself. Thanks for playing the request.
The new "Intros" and "endings" were executed flawlessly and add a new dimension to the music. The band performed quite well with Kostia bringing it home on the keyboard solos and Eric with his rock-solid(jazzy)bass playing style. Johnny Calarco was a drumming "monster" with well executed timing on his kit. I hope you release this show live eventually. In my opinion it would be a testement to what the Daryl Stuermer Band is all about.

Sincerely,
Gene Steinman

Look forward to seeing you on the upcoming Genesis Tour. Admire your work even though I know virtually nothing about playing the guitar. I just know it sounds good and I like it. I usually find myself trying to isolate you in the We cant dance DVD. It has the 4 camera angles and I love watching you and Chester play. You two are a great fit for the band and have enjoyed your work since 1980 when I first got into Genesis. Good luck to you on your solo stuff and the future tour. Hope to see you somewhere in the States.

I saw Steve Hackett earlier this year at Imac as well as Larry Carlton/Robben Ford together there. It is the perfect type of venue for you. Hope to see and hear you soon.

Daryl-Just got home from the fantastic Wilson Center show. It was an outstanding evening! Talk about Deja Vu-I still have a 4-track of your 1980 Summerfest simulcast on WZMF radio where I first heard Omnibus, Copenhagen and "LA" Meltdown. The show brought back outstanding memories. Thanks for the enjoyable evening!

Bob G. - Thursday, September 21st, 2006 8:38 PM CDT
Hi - Just wanted to post that I went to the 'Tosa Fest' concert of the Daryl Stuermer Band in Wauwatosa, WI, earlier this month, and have to say it was one of the best performances I have seen of Daryl and his band ever! 2 full hours of music both old, contemporary and upcoming! I have seen Daryl literally more than a twenty times over the years, and the Tosa performance was really astounding - an excellent example of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Daryl's piano / keyboard collaborator, Kostia, provided an excellent melodic foil for Daryl's searing guitar, and the intereplay between these 2 has really developed over the years to the point that they are to each other as one instrument being played seamlessly by 2 people. In addition, the rhythm section of Johnny Calarco and Eric Hervey is so tight and energetic; effectively keeping time and rhythm when the Daryl and Kostia break into either an improv or solo. Johnny Calarco is one of the very best drummers I've ever heard in any style of music - I listen to alot of straight jazz and jazz fusion as well as rock, and in addition I've seen my share of live shows in both large and small venues, and I've rerely heard such a competent and talented drummer as Mr. Calarco. He is professional way beyond Milwaukee, and I mean this as no slight to Miwlaukee musicians / bands.

Finally, the new compositions from the forthcoming disk 'Go', were some of the best song constructions I've heard yet from Daryl, and the melodies on both the uptempo and slower pieces were excellent, especially the well-named track "Heavy Heart", a mid-tempo piece which is simultaneously powerful and dramatically emotional

My best wishes to the entire band going forward with the new album. May you all find much success.

Gene Steinman - Daryl's biggest fan - Sunday, August 6th, 2006 10:02 PM CDT
Hi Daryl and everyone at Urban Island. I enjoyed the last two nights 8-4 and 8-5-2006. Very memorable nights indeed. Congratulations on the new direction in your music. The music you create is always great but somehow you manage to make it even greater. The live experience is truly uplifting. I can still hear it in my mind. Thank you for the years of making us smile with well written and finely crafted music. There are no fillers and artificial additives here, just truly inspired music.

We've recently purchased two Phil Collins live DVDs...as always, your smokin' (and often sugically subtle) guitar work is superb. This is my first listen at your solo stuff and will add your CDs to my library. Any chance for an autographed photo? Thanks, Skip and Loretta Hansen

Hi Daryl. I am from Russia, Moscow. I read your post about being in Moscow, about "playing a corporate party" and all... Thank's god - you understand everything as right as it was. We are - the real fans were far away from scene , but we WERE there! I hope Phil and other musicians understood that too. The tickets to front row were too expensive for REAL fans (~200-300$) :((

But anyway - we hope - you all liked Russia and may be come back someday. Thank you for Greatest show! I dreamed about it since 1993 when I first heard Genesis.
Thanks you very much for what you are all doing! Say big hallo to phil from Russia with love!

Daryl, You are a major guitar influence on me. I wore out Aurora and Enigmatic Oceans learning how to play. Now i finally found a Hagstrom Swede and wow thats the steurmer tone. Wha type of amp did you use with Jean Luc.. You will always be my fave fusion player.. the Second solo in Enigmatic oceans is the best most melodic solo ever..

By the way.. you forgot to mention that you are featured in the Gino Vanelli Live video.. there is some amazing playing on that.. Who made your violin shaped guitar.. very very cool

Thanks for making a page

Hy there,
I'm a fan since the first albums he played on from JLPonty. I like the nylon string Sadowsky, can someone tell me where in Europe you can become one, it seems that there are no Sadowsky dealers in Holland, it must cost an awfull lot of money.
Are there any tours olanned in Holland?

I've been a fan of Phil Collins and Genesis since the early 90's, and I've witnessed many tours featuring Daryl Stuermer as guitarist. I must say that I feel Daryl's unique style of playing greatly contributed to the fine quality of Genesis' and, in particular, Phil Collins' music and hence their success. Daryl may not be the most well-known or financially successful guitarist in the world, but he is most surely one of the best

Hi Daryl,
Last christmas I had to think about your christmas album with a crazy solo on Little drummer boy. I also have your "steppin out" and remember that I enjoyed it very much, but I lost the Christmas one...
Now I searched for you with google, and found you again! Great that you're still going strong!
Why not play at the North Sea Jazz fest in Holland? Or anywhere else in Holland? I'll be there!
Good luck, and I'll buy some of your albums again, the mp3's on your site sound great!

Antony Forst - Sunday, January 9th, 2005 6:02 AM CST
I am great fan of Daryl, and wish I could hear him playing solo; other then when I have seen him playing with Phil Collins. He is a terrific guitarist and deserves wider reconition. Happy New Year Daryl!!

Brad Debbaudt - Tuesday, January 4th, 2005 6:38 AM CST
Dear Mr. Stuermer,

I just would like to tell you that one gift I got this Christmas, was some of your albums. Before I'd gotten your "Retrofit" and "Another Side Of Genesis" albums at a Phil Collins show. Now I have all of your albums including your first one "Steppin' Out". I give them all two thumbs up! I play the guitar myself because you have inspired me. Keep up the good work! Your loyal fan, Brad Debbaudt

Daryl, I and many others are anxiously waiting for you and your band's next performance in the Milwaukee area. I am very grateful to have had the blessing of working under your guidance as a young man learning to play the guitar at the Belair Studios in Cudahy from about 1969-1973 (St.Francis HS, class of 1977). I keep hoping that one day I will be able to pick it up again. My musical tastes have been completely shaped by your style and many of your same influences. God bless you and yours.

Marco Kilmer / Berlin - Tuesday, December 7th, 2004 6:47 AM CST
Hi there (Daryl and staff). Just ordered the Retrofit poster and the collectable guitar pick. I'm really looking forward to it, since I'm a guitarist myself. But won't use that pick though - way too valuable. Daryl, you're the best. Greetings from Germany

We have been following Daryl's career for many many years now. I am a drummer therefore I follow Phil Collins every move.My wife is totally in love with Daryl and wishes she could meet him in person someday. Maybe someday her dream can come true. Daryl if you read this, We think your guitar mastery is one of a kind and without you Phil Collins music wouldnt be quite the same. You give it drive and direction and we thank you.Never stop playing.

At one of the merchandising stands at the Palace of Auburn Hills Phil Collins concert (9/17), where Retrofit and Another Side of Genesis were being sold, the little cardboard hand written sign advertising 'Another Side' read:

"Daryl Stuermer: Genius"

I smiled to myself.... 'yeah, that fits.'

jim benton - Saturday, September 25th, 2004 11:31 PM CDT
have enjoyed daryl's guitar playing ever since the jean luc ponty days. new stuff is great..guitar tones and all.thanks.

Leslie From Detroit - Saturday, September 25th, 2004 7:35 PM CDT
There once was this guitar guy named Daryl,
Who had me right over a barrel.
To listen to him play
Makes you stand up and say,
"Who needs lyrics? These are great instrumentals!"

Daryl, your music (not to mention your band) is the best. Its only a matter of time before the world knows it, and Retrofit is definitely going to be the disc that opens that door. All the best to you and everyone at Urban Island.

Indeed, kudos to Ray Jackson for the new website design, too.

I wish I was still in Cicago so I could have gone up to see some Sweet Bottom shows. I did get up to Milwaukee at a fest and it brought me back to the day. Truely amazing.

It would be nice if you could come by St. Louis sometime. Many good venues here. For a smaller show, the Pageant comes to mind.
